Yakima County Fire District 5 is excited to announce that beginning in November, we will begin the process of putting into service new Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) that will replace aging equipment that will soon be obsolete. This is equipment our firefighters utilize to safely breath within dangerous atmospheres such as the smoke and heat of fires.

The equipment was purchased utilizing a FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant that Yakima County Fire District 5 was awarded in 2016. The total cost of the project is $766,210, of which the fire district was required to match 10% of the project costs.

This was a huge accomplishment for our organization that was only made possible by all the efforts of our members. Thanks to our committee members for helping with the assessment process, training divisions for educating our members on how to use this equipment, maintenance division for learning how to properly maintain this equipment, and our administration office for helping manage the grant process.

Photo opportunities are available; please contact Lieutenant Andy Babcock for any questions at 509.901.0738 or andy.babcock@ycfd5.org.

Thank-you.
